Summary and Reflection
One of the funniest and enjoyable “modern” American sitcoms is the “Modern Family.” The show is about the interrelation of three families that are connected through Jay and Gloria Pritchett and their children Clair and Mitchell (the nuclear family). Although the three families of the Pritchett, the Dunphy, and the Tucker-Pritchett are not the typical nuclear family, the show reflects how people nowadays are becoming more accepting to different types of families. For instance, in the show, I find the Tucker-Pritchett family as a refreshing portrayal of a strong family unit. Although Mitchell and Cameron are openly gay, stereotypical expectations of them did not prevent them from establishing a fun, healthy, and loving family together with their adopted daughter, Lily. Truly, this show signifies how mainstream attitudes towards same-sex relationships and marriages have drastically changed in the recent years.
In relation to this week’s readings, I will focus on the Tucker-Pritchett family. A not-so-typical situation that this sitcom portrays is the presence of happily married same-sex couples Mitchell and Cameron (and Lily!). Their family may as well spark some controversy because there are still some people in our society that are close-minded about the reality of same-sex marriages (as evidenced by some conservative states that still forbid same-sex marriages). However, I like this couple mainly because they represent how gay couples are capable of raising their own families – and be happy while they’re at it. The fact that a lot of viewers welcome their relationship and enjoy watching them proves that same-sex marriages and the LGBTQ+ movement has progressed based on the acceptance of the viewers.
Connection with Chapters 14 and 15
As previously mentioned, the “Modern Family” is composed of three different family types, including a nuclear family (the Pritchett family), a step-family (the Dunphy family), and a same-sex family (the Tucker-Pritchett family). Mitch and Cam’s family reminds me of this week’s reading because their union is uncommon yet today’s modern society is slowly becoming more accepting towards same-sex marriages and families. While the sitcom normalizes such family setup, it also reminds me how sociologists perceive marriages and families as societal institutions that serve as the basic unit of social structure. Likewise, the portrayal of a family headed by (a married) same-sex partners prove that families and marriages do adapt to social change. Gone are the days when a family is supposed to be preferably nuclear. On the other hand, same-sex marriages still face some challenges even today because there are still those who believe it is against God’s will to be gay or to have same-sex relationships. This brings us to the next chapter, which tackles religion.
In Chapter 15, we learn that religion can be a force for social change, just as Max Weber argued. In the U.S., the liberation theology allows us to see family and marriages in a different light, addressing social injustices, discrimination, and poverty in the process.

Recently I watched a movie called Green Book. He is a very famous movie. People who have seen it have a deep feeling, This is the most moving movie I have ever seen, the laughter and applause never stopped. The rhythm is cheerful, the plot is interesting and deep. Uncle V played the Italian driver from the streets of Bronx and the highly educated black musician played by Ali, a surprising spark came. The two toured south from New York, but the racial discrimination became more and more serious as they moved south . The director used an ingenious angle to show the audience the injustice and the entanglement of the musicians. Although he has performed on different important occasions since he was a child, the most enjoyable one is a black little bar on Christmas Eve. He eventually chose to speak up for himself and no longer give in to discrimination.
Driving prejudice is not by firing a gun, and winning respect is not by fists. It is better to return for the toilet, to walk out for a meal, to be bullied is not regarded as an insult but a test, and to be favored is not regarded as a glory but as a shame. The black slaves working in the south saw him dapper on the side of the road, like a prophecy. A high-end restaurant, a spacious toilet, and a high-end fitting room didn’t hold anything, but it was packed into a green compartment and bravely hit the road.
In the 1960s, it was the era of the black people ’s rights movement represented by Martin Luther King, especially in the south. Prior to the Montgomery bus boycott, Little Rock, free passenger movement and other black races for racial equality The South 3K Party is active, and the white group’s hatred for black is also growing.
If you are black and appeared in the southern United States before the 1960s, your fate must be miserable. For example, for transportation, white people and people of color should purchase carriages and wait separately; children’s education, schools for white children and black children should be operated separately; dining in restaurants, should provide services exclusively for white people or people of color, and not Should serve different races in the same room at the same time; renting a room, renting a room to a black person in an all-white apartment, or renting a room to a white person in an all-black apartment, should be fined or sentenced.
As for showing off, he knew that although this white man served him, his social status was actually higher than him.Perhaps at this moment, he suddenly realized that “we” are still the same, they are all just black. Their sufferings reflected the weakness of his heart. This was the first time in the entire journey that he had stood up to his dignity, and the only time he had shown relaxation.Perhaps some people think that he should be integrated into the “owner” circle, but this concept of “black” must be integrated into the “black circle” may be another kind of discrimination.
In my opinion, both blacks and whites should have equal status, and there should not be colored eyes to look at them. I am a yellow race and have been laughed at by others in high school. I do n’t quite understand why they laugh at me. Me, I am also human.A strong nation needs the unity of all races and nations.

Recently, I went to see a movie called the starting line. He is an Indian movie. After I watched this movie, I felt very sad. It is a very straightforward presentation of the education problems that most parents care about and the most painful. This is also the problem I faced in China before.
India, the same densely populated and resource-constrained developing country, has the same brutal status quo as China. “Don’t let children lose on the starting line”. This naked warning and struggle is the main thrust of the whole article.Mita’s proposal to put her child in a private prestigious school was met by her husband. She said, “The most direct way to enter this class (upper society) is to go to the best school. In Mita ’s mind, entering a private school means entering a higher society, while studying in the public may cause their children to slip into the bottom of society
Raj was persuaded by his wife, and they made the first sacrifice, which was to spend a lot of money, and buy a house in the rich area.In order to integrate into the upper level and let children enter prestigious schools, they asked writers to help children create “Cowboy” resumes, fashion experts to help them design clothes, and professionals to help them design interview questions and answers.Everything was seamless, but in the end it was rejected by 4 of the 5 prestigious schools because they didn’t want to accept the children of the shop owner.
Yes, they all have a “chain of contempt” in different countries. Class injustice and discrimination, at the moment when this interview failed, zoomed in again directly before us.”The school believes that if children’s parents are not well-educated, they will not pay too much attention to their children’s education.”
When did you despise this statement at the class level? No one can answer this question. In China, especially in first-tier cities like Shanghai and Beijing, how many “niu schools” have the same qualifications for interviews?
And I think that education itself is not stratified, it is often our obsession, so that we can not see the essence of education.More important than the level of the surface is the orientation of the child’s intrinsic values, whether the child can maintain that sincerity no matter what the situation is, and the kindness and solitude of the child who lives openly in this world

I recently watched a movie called Death Experiment,”Death Experiment” is a movie based on a real psychological experiment-“Stanford Prison Experiment”. The psychologist, who is called in the movie, has convened dozens of volunteers to study the human psychology. The experiment divided 20 people into one group, a group of 8 people and a group of 12 people. They lived in a simulated prison for two weeks. The group of 8 people played prison guards and the group of 12 people played prisoners. In the experiment, prisoners must obey prison guards, and prisoners will be deprived of certain powers. Psychologists also impose a series of disciplinary requirements to bring both sides back into their roles.
In fact, people have no distinction between high and low, and everyone is on the planet equally. Otherwise, why should the law hang a balance instead of building a crane? However, there are many people who feel that they are superior after being assigned a certain position. Everything requires others to act in accordance with their own wishes, and puts out a kind of overhead frame in order to be obedient. As everyone knows, this actually increases the resentment of others, even the psychological resistance.
This film can also see the influence of the environment on human behavior. Maybe they did not enter the role at first. When the prison guards put on their uniforms, they seemed to find the sensation. A high-minded attitude immediately appeared. It can be seen that when a person recognizes his identity and identity, he will unconsciously do things that match this identity. Just like these testees, they will also accept and be relatively tolerant to people of the same identity, and create a group. Consciousness, human emotions and behaviors are all dictated by this identity. In prison, violence is real. After the jailer quelled the first prisoner’s resistance, Boris gradually became the leader of the prison guard, and his authority in the jailer was established. After being ridiculed by No. 77, this experimental participant, who was full of scars in his life, finally broke out of human nature. When he was empowered, his spirit was distorted.
When the criminals put on the prison guard’s clothes, they are prison guards. Of course, they should follow the rules of the prison guards, but they have not received professional training to understand the culture of the prison guards, so they will manage the group from their own point of view Prisoner. Individual behavior also often shows consciously or unconsciously being shaped by the people and the environment around it. It is hardly transferred by the individual’s subjective will and has a socially compulsive nature.
Although his ending has everyone got what they want, it fully illustrates the importance of socialization. When we play a new social role, at first we may feel false, but in the context of the set situation, Next, we may soon forget our original identity and engage in new role-playing. For example, when we change from high school students to college students, we may have a positioning for college students, knowing where it is different from high school students, we may pay more attention in the new role-playing, until it is transformed into our inner behavior. This proper and proper role playing will help people grow.

how the sociology is important to us, I recently watched a movie called Lavague. This film made me realize how important sociology is to human life, In this film, the director and screenwriter show the audience almost like a textbook how to build an ultra-cohesive, authoritarian totalitarian small society in 7 days.
What is worth pondering is that the students involved in this dictator farce did not realize this, as if the masses in the movement have given up their personality and followed the mainstream, which is more reflected in the disadvantaged students in the film. Obviously, the most tragic consequences of the film also happened to them. Therefore, when we analyze the people of a society under totalitarian rule, is the totalitarian dictatorship assimilated to them, or whether certain groups have an identity with such a system itself, and this question is even more worthy of thought.
For free-spirited students, any course is just for credit. They chatted aloud during the lesson and had no intention of listening. Wenger ingeniously proposed an imaginary “dictatorship” experiment. In a one-week experiment, Wenger was placed on the supremacy, and students obeyed him absolutely. From the initial play mentality,These young men and women are gradually immersed in this organization called “wave”. They have realized the essence of collective and discipline, but have slipped unknowingly into the abyss of “dictatorship” and “Nazi”. Now it is freedom first, not dictatorship. Although at the end of the movie I am vaguely remembering that although the teacher announced the termination of this experiment, the idea of dictatorship is ingrained in these people’s minds.
Sociology is about the conditions and mechanisms for the healthy operation and coordinated development of society. It is a discipline that uses empirical investigation and critical analysis to study the structure and activities of human society. Sociology is very important for human beings. Humanity may be on the path to destruction.

I never really thought life was that hard till I get to be in formal school. Imagine the drama of having to wake up early, eating anything edible and available, knowing your favorite pair of socks was just chewed by your sister’s obnoxious pet, and catching the morning bus to school where the real battle begins with the common school bullies? If you say these are just rites of passage and learning for my own good, I really do not want to learn anymore. Besides, the superintendent has always been keen with my hair or how I sling my bag; I am just not the proper student in my school, and even more the bullies come to make fun of me. This is pretty much what sums a regular kid’s life in and out school today.
Formal education has come a long way. From the turn of the 20th century, the drive to have equal education has taken unprecedented leaps and bounds. Sadly however, the systems lawmakers and education gurus have installed are far from perfect and can be easily criticized for their lack of foresight.
Think about it, the catch phrase ‘equal but separated’ is just an awful example of true-to-life oxymoron. Even the dreaded No Child Left Behind Act is just plain nonsense. In fact, I have read that in other countries, teachers had to allow all students to pass regardless if they know how to read and write merely because the Ministry of Education has dictated that no student will be left behind; all must be promoted to the next year level. And I thought that bullies are the bigger and mean kids ‘all back in the bus’ only to find out later in life that those in the gurus of education are no better. If there are students who fail especially if they are many (mostly due to ill-behavior and lack of desire to learn), the teacher is summoned, reprimanded, and at worst even fired and blacklisted for being ‘incompetent’ and ‘irresponsible.’ Now, I guess you understand that the same bullies have never changed at all, and thanks to their connections and wealth, they are still all back in the bus this time on the way to the Ministry: all tidied up, prim and proper, but reeking with the same old nasty grin to beat the next helpless teacher.

Understanding How Stella Becomes Steve
I must admit that all these issues about the LGBTQ+ community is making my head spin. Just when I thought that everything seems to be in its proper order, the news about gay rights and SOGIE bills being debated on countries makes me want to just frog leap to Mars if possible. I mean, I am not complaining about anything, but this issue has dragged so much resources and precious time that people should probably just stick to the old ways. Talk about being traditionalist, Chapter 12 clearly explains that sexual orientation “according to current scientific understanding, individuals are usually aware of their sexual orientation between middle childhood and early adolescence” (American Psychological Association 2008). This alone stands on its own: long before someone starts asking you to write your sex and gender on a legal document, you already know what your sexual preferences are. The only question then is why does thing issue need to go global and all out? The answer lies in the family, community, and the society. Or perhaps the people who play pretend suddenly wanted the spotlight? Whatever the case may be, there should have been no issue from the very beginning.
Understanding how a teenager may transition from Stella to Steve is only a matter of awareness and acceptance. Knowing that individuals already have the disposition, awareness, and inner drive to pursue such ‘jump’ is the key. If people will begin to realize that this free agency is a gift and that the ultimate measure of one’s freedom lies in his or her ability to choose their gender, then people should uphold and honor that decision owing to the same respect afforded to their free agency. Remember that in the end, it is as always be, to each his or her own.
What about you? What do you think is the best course of action towards people who would opt to transition from a Stella to a Steve or vice-versa? Must we just let the song play its familiar tune and let their ‘good times roll’ while we stand passively on the sidelines or engage and celebrate?
